VRST Men’s Canvas Chore Jacket
We built our canvas chore jacket for men who need workwear toughness without sacrificing style. This jacket brings classic chore coat architecture into modern performance territory with water-resistant cotton canvas, reinforced stress points, and a cut that works equally well on the job site or weekend errands.
Four front pockets—two chest and two hip—give you ample storage for tools, phone, wallet, and EDC essentials. We reinforced every seam and added bar-tack stitching at pocket corners to handle daily wear. The jacket’s relaxed fit layers easily over hoodies or flannels while still maintaining a clean silhouette.
Construction & design details

Fabric & construction
We chose 10-ounce cotton canvas for this jacket because it delivers the perfect balance of durability and breathability. The fabric features a durable water-repellent finish that sheds light rain and morning dew without feeling stiff or heavy. Unlike synthetic shells that trap heat, cotton canvas breathes naturally while still blocking wind.
Every seam receives double-needle stitching, and we add bar-tack reinforcement at pocket corners, sleeve hems, and side vents. The corduroy collar adds a heritage touch while preventing chafing against your neck. Interior french seams mean no raw edges to fray over time—this jacket is built to become a decade-long staple in your rotation.

Sizing & fit
The VRST men’s canvas chore jacket runs true to size with a relaxed, workwear-inspired fit. We designed it to layer comfortably over hoodies, heavyweight flannels, or crewneck sweaters without restricting movement. The drop-shoulder construction and articulated sleeves give you natural arm mobility for reaching, lifting, or driving.
Chest measurements at the widest point: Small 42″, Medium 44″, Large 46″, XL 48″, XXL 50″. Body length from high point shoulder to hem: Small 28″, Medium 29″, Large 30″, XL 31″, XXL 32″. If you prefer a slimmer fit or plan to wear it over T-shirts only, consider sizing down one from your usual jacket size.
Pocket layout & utility
Four front pockets make this chore jacket as functional as it is stylish. The two chest pockets feature button-flap closures to secure small items like keys, a phone, or a notebook—each pocket measures 6″ wide by 7″ deep. Hip pockets use heavy-duty metal snaps and are sized generously at 7.5″ wide by 8″ deep to fit work gloves, a tablet, or a water bottle.
We positioned chest pockets high enough that they don’t interfere with a backpack’s sternum strap or tool belt. The hip pockets sit just above your natural hand position for easy access. All pocket bags are reinforced with an extra layer of canvas to prevent sagging or tearing when loaded.

Common questions about the VRST Canvas Chore Jacket
Our chore jacket runs true to size with a relaxed, workwear-inspired fit that’s designed for layering. It’s slightly roomier through the chest and shoulders than fashion-forward brands but more tailored than traditional work jackets. If you typically wear a medium in casual jackets and want to layer over hoodies or flannels, stick with a medium. For a slimmer fit over just T-shirts, size down one.
The jacket works best as a layering piece in fall and spring or as outerwear in mild winter conditions. The 10 oz cotton canvas blocks wind effectively and provides light insulation, but it’s not lined with fleece or down. For cold winter weather, we recommend layering it over our quilted liner vest or a heavyweight hoodie. Many customers wear it as a three-season piece from September through May.
The DWR finish is designed to withstand regular washing when you follow care instructions—cold water, gentle cycle, low heat or hang dry. Over time and repeated laundering, the water repellency may gradually diminish, which is normal for any treated fabric. You can easily restore the finish with a spray-on DWR treatment available at outdoor retailers. Avoid fabric softeners and high heat, which accelerate finish degradation.
Yes, all four pockets are designed for real utility. The chest pockets have button-flap closures that secure items like phones, wallets, or small notebooks—each is 6″ wide by 7″ deep. Hip pockets use heavy-duty metal snaps and measure 7.5″ wide by 8″ deep, large enough for work gloves, a tablet, or hand tools. We reinforced all pocket bags with extra canvas to prevent sagging when loaded.
The canvas starts with a structured feel but softens naturally with wear and washing while maintaining its durability. After the first few washes, you’ll notice the fabric becomes more pliable and comfortable without losing its shape or protective qualities. This break-in process is characteristic of quality cotton canvas and results in a jacket that molds to your body over time.
While both are workwear-inspired, our canvas chore jacket uses heavier 10 oz cotton canvas instead of denim, giving it more structure and wind resistance. The chore jacket design features four front pockets instead of the typical two in denim jackets, plus a corduroy collar for added comfort. It’s also treated with a water-resistant finish, which standard denim jackets typically lack. The fit is slightly more relaxed to accommodate layering over heavier garments.
Absolutely—the jacket’s breathable cotton canvas, articulated sleeves, and water-resistant finish make it suitable for casual hiking, camping, or outdoor work. The four pockets provide ample storage for trail essentials, and the relaxed fit allows full range of motion. While it’s not a technical shell, it performs well for moderate outdoor activities in dry to lightly damp conditions. Many customers use it for everything from weekend hikes to yard work and travel.
